RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Chicago State men's basketball team dropped a 85-53 road contest to California Baptist on Wednesday night.
Amir Gholizadeh (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Toronto Basketball Academy) and
Noah Bigirumwami (Santa Clarita, Calif./Village Christian) led the Cougars in scoring with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Bigirumwami also added six rebounds.
The Cougars (4-18, 0-7 WAC) took an early 3-0 lead before the Lancers scored 10 unanswered to take a 10-3 lead, forcing a Chicago State timeout. The Cougars responded out of the break with a Gholizadeh triple but a 10-2 Lancer run kept the lead in double digits.
With California Baptist (14-5, 4-1 WAC) leading 23-13, the closed the first half on a 18-9 run to take a 41-24 lead into halftime.
Out of the break, Chicago State was able to get the lead to 15 behind buckets from
Solomon Hunt (Pomona, Calif./Upland H.S.) and
Ke'sean Davis but that was as close as they would get the remainder of the contest.
Chicago State will take some time off and will hit the hardwood again on Feb. 1. when they host Kansas City at 12:05 pm from the Jones Convocation Center.
