CHICAGO – The Chicago men's basketball team dropped a 72-54 contest to Cal-State Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center.
Rajeir Jones (Baltimore, Md./St. Francis Academy) led the way for the Cougars with a team-high 17 points while Jones and
Ke'Sean Davis (Compton, Calif./Taft Charter H.S.) added four rebounds each.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 14-6 early lead in the first half before a 6-0 spurt spearheaded by a pair of free throws from Davis cut the lead to one point at the 11:52 mark. The Roadrunners, were able to regain an eight-point lead at the 7:29 mark but the Cougars battled back to within a one possession game with five consecutive free throws to cut the lead to 27-25 at the 4:40 mark. That was as close as the Cougars would get in the first half as they trailed 38-30 at the break.
CSU - Bakersfield's lead ballooned to 14 points at the 1311 mark of the second half before the Cougars started to chip away at the lead. Free throws were vital throughout as the Cougars shot 81.8 percent from the line for the contest.
Solomon Hunt (Pomona, Calif./Upland H.S.) nailed a pair and a three-point play from
Andrew Lewis (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee Vincent H.S.) got the lead to single digits at the 11:47 mark.
The Cougars got as close as six points with 8:13 left in the contest but went cold from the floor late in the game allowing the Roadrunners to pull away on a 12-0 run to close the contest.

The Cougars will travel to California Baptist on Wednesday, Jan. 22 for a contest against the Lancers. Chicago State is back at home at the JCC on Feb. 2 when they take on Kansas City. Tipoff is set for 12:05 pm.
