MADISON, WISC. – The Chicago State men's tennis team opened up the spring slate with a pair of matches on Saturday hosted the Wisconsin Badgers. The Cougars fell, 7-0 to Illinois State before a 6-1 loss to host Wisconsin.
Jako Suler had the highlight of the afternoon defeating Wisconsin's Lenard Soha at the No. 1 singles spot. Suler won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set, 3-6. The Zagareb, Croatia native took the match by winning the third-set tiebreaker, 10-5.
In the opening match of the spring against Illinois State, there were several quality matches. At No. 2 singles, after dropping the first set 6-3,
Jesus Plaza battled back and made the second set interesting before falling, 6-3, 7-5.
The Cougars are on the road on Jan. 24 when they travel to Saint Louis to take on the Bilikens before opening the home slate on Jan. 31 against Valparaiso.
