CHICAGO - Rookie duo Rajier Jones and
Amir Gholizadeh (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Toronto Basketball Academy) lead the offensive efforts as Chicago State men's basketball dropped a 78-64 decision to Grand Canyon, Thursday, Jan. 16 inside the Jones Convocation Center.
Jones finished with a team-best 19 points, while Gholizadeh connected on 17.
The Cougars scored first off of a
Ke'Sean Davis (Compton, Calif./Taft Charter H.S.) jumper at the 19:30 mark and saw another lead early in the first four minutes of the contest before the Lopes got into a shooting groove and finished the half shooting 55 percent from the field, and 7-10 from the 3-point line to take a 43-23 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Cougars went on a hot-shooting spell knocking down three-straight threes, two from Gholizadeh and two from
Michael Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Harlan).
During the final three minutes and 41 seconds, the Cougars used a final push going on a 9-4 run before GCU sealed the 14-point, 78-64 victory.
Jones also lead the Cougars on the boards with four rebounds, while Johnson dished four dimes during the loss.
