Women's Basketball Set for WAC Tournament

LAS VEGAS -- The Chicago State women's basketball team is set to kick off the 2019 WAC postseason tournament tomorrow afternoon, taking on the No. 1 seeded New Mexico State University. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. (CST) start time.

The No. 8 Cougars
Chicago State enters the WAC Tournament as the eight seed with a 2-27 overall record and a 2-14 record in conference play. NM State beat the Cougars twice this season, taking down the Cougars 87-66 in Chicago on Feb. 2 and 77-54 in Las Cruces on March 2. Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) is the only Cougar that averages double figures at 12.0 points per game. Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) is CSU's second leading scorer as she averages 9.2 per contest while pulling down 10.6 rebounds per game, third in the WAC. Chicago State ranks ninth in the league in scoring as they average 55.6 points per game and also rank ninth defensively, giving up 84.8 points per contest.

Scouting the Aggies
The red-hot Aggies are amid a 14-game win streak currently, and head into the WAC tournament as the regular season champions. CSU's biggest threats will be NM State's Brook Sales who was named the WAC's Defensive Player of the Year and Player of the Year, for the second straight year. Averaging a double-double per game, Sales tallies 19.3 points per game and 11.3 boards per contest. Gia Pack is also an offensive threat, running the floor for the Aggies with 3.5 assists per game and averaging 15.8 points per game. 

Last Time Out
The Cougars dropped their regular season finale to Kansas City, 100-50. Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) led the night for CSU, with 6-9 shooting from the field and 14 total points. She also came up with five clutch blocks on defense and added four rebounds to her final stat line. Tamara Olverson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) and Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) also had strong outings, with each scoring in double-digits. Bowers also finished with two assists.
