Cougars Drop Five-Set Match at Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. – For the third-straight match, Chicago State volleyball went to five sets, this time suffered a fifth-set (25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-10) setback to Eastern Illinois, Monday, Nov. 11 in Charleston, Ill.
 
The Panthers took sets one and four with identical 25-19 victories as the Cougars claimed the second and third set with duplicate 25-22 scores.
 
EIU took a huge 10-2 lead in the final set, before Chicago State score six-straight to cut the lead to two (10-8). The Panthers would use a 5-2 run to close the final set, giving the home team the 3-2 victory.
 
CSU
  • Josi Borum (Sterling, IL/) added another double-double to her rookie resume finishing with a team-best 12 kills and 14 assists.
  • Pacing the offense, Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) earned a double-double of her own with 22 assists and 13 digs, while adding a match four service aces.
  • Fellow rookie, Ceyna Kahraman (Istanbul, Turkey/), trailed Borum with 11 kills and five digs, as Beatrize Palmieri earned 10 kills and collected 13 digs.
  • Defensively the Cougars were anchored by WAC Defensive Player of the Week Megan Klavitter (Fenton, MI/) earned 18 digs and finished with three service aces.
 
EIU
  • Morgan Matuski led the match with 18 kills and four blocks.
  • Maggie Runge (17) and Kylie Michael (15) also finished with double-digit kills.
  • Defensively, Michael earned a match-best 27 digs, while Bailey Chandler dished 50 assists.

The Cougars return to WAC action on Thursday, Nov. 14 as CSU travels to Las Cruces, N.M., for a 1 p.m., match with the top-ranked New Mexico State Aggies, followed by a Nov. 16 match at Texas Rio Grande Valley at 8 p.m., in Edinburg, Texas.
