Opening Tip – The Chicago State women's basketball team welcomes Kansas City to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center this Saturday in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both team with the game set to begin at 1 p.m.
 
Scouting CSU – Chicago State looks to open on a positive note after concluding its non-conference schedule at the JCC last Sunday with a 90-65 defeat to Brown as junior forward Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) led four players in double figures with a career-high 20 rebounds and a season-best 16 points. Sophomore guard Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) leads the Green and White with 14.7 points and 2.8 assists a game. Freshman guard Kourtney Crane (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) is second on the team in scoring at 8.9 points per game as well as shooting 83 percent from the free throw line. Mata Boix is producing team highs of 11.6 rebounds and a WAC-best 2.4 blocked shots per game to go along with shooting 52 percent from the field.
 
Scouting UMKC – Kansas City heads into the Windy City with a 6-7 record after closing a three-game homestand on Dec. 30 with a 62-55 loss to Illinois State which broke a four-game winning streak. Junior guard Ericka Mattingly is averaging 19.8 points, 6.7 assists and three steals a game to lead UMKC, while freshman forward Leilah Vigil is grabbing a team-leading nine rebounds per game in addition to scoring 10.8 points per contest.
 
Series History – Saturday's game marks the 44th lifetime meeting between CSU and UMKC on the hardwood with the Kangaroos producing a 34-9 leading margin. UMKC swept last season's series over the Green and White that included a 59-47 victory at the Jones Convocation Center on March 3, 2017.
 
Mata Boix Makes CSU Top Five in Career Blocks – Mata Boix currently sits in fourth place on CSU's career blocked shots list as she has now tallied 90 blocks in over a year. She is now 39 blocks shy of surpassing Wendi Walker's (2001-06) school record total of 128.

Up Next – CSU hits the road for the first time in WAC play by traveling to Riverside, Calif., on Saturday, Jan. 12 at California Baptist with the game slated to begin at 9 p.m., central time.
