Three Cougars Record Double-Doubles in Five-Set Thriller against EIU

CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball team saw three of its players record double-doubles tonight as it fell to in-state rival Eastern Illinois in a five-set thriller here at the Jacoby Dickens Center.
 
CSU opened the match with a 25-16 win in the first set before the visitors posted a 25-20 victory in the second set to send the match into intermission tied a 1-1. After the Cougars took the third set by a 25-19 margin, EIU claimed a 25-16 fourth-set advantage before winning the fifth set by a score of 15-11.
 
Senior Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) tallied a pair of match highs with 26 digs and 19 kills for her seventh double-double of the year to go along with posting two service aces. Sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) contributed 22 assists and 10 digs, while senior Iva Alebic (Obermaiselstein, Germany/Gertrud-von-le-Fort Gym) recorded her first career double-double with career highs of 13 digs and 11 kills.
 
Senior Ludmila Bomfim (Belo-Horizonte Minas Gerais, Brazil/Escola Estadual Pedro II) finished with 27 assists followed by junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) adding 21 digs and a career-best five service aces. Junior Kirah Williams-Shephard (Toronto, Canada/L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute) posted a season-best 11 kills on the evening.
 
The Panthers (6-11) received double-double efforts from Laurel Bailey (15 kills, 13 digs), Bailey Chandler (45 assists, 14 digs) and Kylie Michel (11 digs, 10 kills).
 
The Green and White held advantages in kills (60-54), assists (57-52), digs (86-73), service aces (7-6) and solo blocks (3-1) in the match.
 
CSU returns to Western Athletic Conference play on Thursday night at Kansas City with the first serve set for 7 p.m.
