KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) posted a match-leading 13 kills to lead visiting Chicago State as it dropped a 3-0 decision to host Kansas City tonight at Swinney Recreation Center in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball battle.

The first set was back and forth between the two teams before the 'Roos earned a close 25-23 victory then took the second set by a 25-19 margin going into intermission. UMKC closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the third set.

Junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) contributed 15 digs and a match-best three service aces, while sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) posted 14 assists. Senior Ludmila Bomfim (Belo-Horizonte Minas Gerais, Brazil/Escola Estadual Pedro II) tallied a double-double of 12 assists and 10 digs followed by junior Kirah Williams-Shephard (Toronto, Canada/L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute) recording nine kills for the Cougars.

UMKC was led by Alli Schomers (25 assists) and Rhegan Spiegel (19 digs).

Chicago State hosts UT Rio Grande Valley on Oct. 4 at the Jacoby Dickens Center to start a season-high three-match homestand with the first serve set for 7 p.m.
