CSU Drops 3-0 Decision at Seattle U to End WAC Opening Weekend

SEATTLE – Chicago State ended the opening weekend of Western Athletic Conference play here today at the Redhawk Center with a 3-0 defeat to host Seattle U.
 
SU (8-6, 1-0) captured a 2-0 lead after winning the first set by a 25-19 margin and took the second set via a 25-16 decision before heading into intermission. Both teams then battled back and forth in the third set before the Redhawks escaped with a close 27-25 victory.
 
The Cougars (7-10, 1-1) received a match-leading 29 digs from junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) followed by a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs from senior Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview).
 
Sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) posted 15 assists, while senior Iva Alebic (Obermaiselstein, Germany/Gertrud-von-le-Fort Gym) recorded career highs of nine kills and a .471 (9-1-17) hitting clip.
 
Mahra McLeod and Sofia Sanchez each tallied a match-high 13 kills to lead Seattle U.
 
The Green and White make their return to the Jacoby Dickens Center on Tuesday evening with an in-state showdown against Eastern Illinois with the first serve set for 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on the Chicago State Radio Network with Julio Rausseo on the call.
