Volleyball Drops Two Matches to Open Stetson Invitational

DELAND, Fla. – Chicago State volleyball opened the Stetson Invitational here today by dropping a pair of matches at the Edmunds Center after falling 3-2 (25-23, 25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 13-15) to Brown in the first match and ended the day with a 3-1 (26-28, 13-25, 25-22, 16-25) defeat to Bethune-Cookman.
 
Junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) paced CSU in the Brown match by tallying a career-high 38 digs and set a season-high for assists with seven. Three other Cougars recorded double-doubles in sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central), junior Beatriz Palmieri (Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Professora Carlina Cacapava de Mello), and senior Ludmila Bomfim (Belo-Horizonte Minas Gerais, Brazil/Escola Estadual Pedro II). Adams posted 38 assists and 12 digs followed by Palmieri with 18 kills and 16 digs, and Bomfim tallied 24 assists and 12 digs.
 
Senior Gabby Pearl (Farmer City, IL/Blue Ridge) added 12 kills, while sophomore Summer Farris (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) and freshman Autumn DeSantis (Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney) each contributed 10 kills.
 
Kristin Sellers (52 assists, 18 digs) and Sabrina Stillwell (19 kills 11 digs) each tallied double-doubles of their own to lead the Bears (5-2).
 
In the next match versus B-CU, Klavitter picked up where she left off as she recorded a match-high 29 digs for the Green and White. Farris and Pearl also helped the CSU defense with seven total blocks, respectively. Palmieri finished with 14 digs and nine kills followed by Adams dishing out 18 assists.
 
The Wildcats (6-5) were led by J'Nai Higgins as she posted 27 assists and 14 digs.
 
CSU closes the tournament tomorrow morning against host Stetson beginning at 10 a.m., central time.
