CSU Soccer Opens Home Slate Today against SIU Edwardsville

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's soccer opened its home slate this afternoon with a 6-1 defeat to visiting SIU Edwardsville at the Gwendolyn Brooks High School Field.
 
SIUE tallied goals in the ninth and 11th minutes to capture a 2-0 lead which broke an eight-minute scoreless tie.
 
The Green and White closed within 2-1 in the 17th minute when freshman Lola Arreola (Wheeling, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) hit the back of the next for her first collegiate goal after shooting home a rebound off another shot from junior Bailey Holifield (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), but the SIUE Cougars scored again in the 32nd minute to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
 
SIUE then added goals in the 51st, 73rd and 85th minutes of the second half to close the game.
 
Senior goalkeeper Audra Wisehart (Sandusky, Ohio/Huron) recorded a season-high 12 saves to lead the Cougars.
 
CSU closes out its home-opening weekend with another in-state battle on Sunday against Eastern Illinois with the opening kickoff set for 1 p.m.
