Cougars Fall to Eastern Illinois, 2-0, to Close Home-Opening Weekend

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's soccer closed out its home-opening weekend slate at Gwendolyn Brooks High School Field today by falling to in-state foe Eastern Illinois by a score of 2-0.

Both teams opened the game with a scoreless defensive battle that lasted the first 33-plus minutes of the first half. The visitors got on the board with a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when Haylee Renick hit the back of the net with Lindsey Carlson assisting on the score.

EIU (1-2-2) tallied an insurance goal in the 67th minute after Lexi Ketterhagen shot past the CSU defense on a rebound from a deflected shot from Elisabeth Held to seal the win.

Junior Sara Quevedo (Lomo Blanco, Spain) paced the Cougars (0-4-1) with two shots on goal and senior goalie Audra Wisehart (Sandusky, Ohio/Huron) produced her second-straight double figure save contest after she stopped 10 Panther scoring attempts.

Chicago State returns to action on Friday, Sept. 7 when it heads to Massachusetts for the first time to play UMass in Amherst beginning at 12 p.m.
