CLEVELAND – Chicago State women's soccer closed out its opening weekend with a 3-1 defeat to host Cleveland State this afternoon at Krenzler Field.

The scoring began in the ninth minute for the home team when Jenna Prathpa scored on a tap in on the back post off a rebound from a shot from Dani Sowinski for a 1-0 lead. Elaina Walnoha increased Cleveland State's advantage to 2-0 before halftime in the 42nd minute thanks to a header off a cross by McKenna Vento.

In the 75th minute of the second half, Vento scored off a quick shot to the far post that hiked the Vikings (2-0) lead to 3-0.

Freshman Marissa Beale (Frazier Park, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) got the Cougars on the board in the 86th minute after she put in a rebound off a stopped shot from junior Sara Quevedo (Lomo Blanco, Spain) to pull within 3-1. The goal marked Beale's second of the weekend while Quevedo recorded her first point in a CSU uniform with an assist.
