Gonzalez, Wattley Close Collegiate Careers as CSU Ends 2017-18 Season at WAC Tournament

MESA, Ariz. – The Chicago State men's tennis team fell to host Grand Canyon in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Western Athletic Conference Tournament today by a score of 4-0 here at the Mesa Tennis Center.
 
The match served as the final competition in the collegiate careers of a pair of four-year seniors in Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham).
 
Gonzalez finished his season with 20 wins in singles play and 22 wins in doubles competition while capturing three school Division I records (most singles wins and most doubles wins. He earned team Most Valuable Player and CSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year accolades this season, named a CSU Scholar-Athlete for the fourth consecutive season and captured All-WAC doubles honors for a third consecutive year after winning second team honors with junior partner Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel).
 
Wattley finished his senior campaign with 15 singles wins while primarily playing in the No. 2 slot. He closes his CSU career ranked sixth on the school's D-I singles list and is a four-time CSU Scholar-Athlete honoree. He received a scholarship with the National Association of Black Accountants last summer and will intern with Deloitte this upcoming summer.
