Men’s Tennis Concludes Regular Season Dual Match Slate Today at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Chicago State men's tennis team concluded its dual match regular season slate this afternoon with a 6-0 defeat to host Purdue at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
 
The Boilermakers claimed the doubles point for a 1-0 advantage after winning the No. 1 and No. 2 flights.
 
Senior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and junior Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) fought tough in their match against Renan Hanayama and Gergely Madarasz before falling by a close 7-6 decision after losing the tiebreaker by a 7-3 margin.
 
Gonzalez then competed in a three-set battle at No. 4 singles against Hanayama after coming back from a 7-5 defeat in the first set to post a 6-2 win in the second set. Both players went back and forth in the third-set tiebreaker before Hanayama came out victorious with a close 11-9 duke.
 
CSU now turns its focus to the upcoming Western Athletic Conference Tournament this week, held at the Mesa Tennis Center in Mesa, Ariz. The sixth-seeded Cougars will battle host and No. 3 seed Grand Canyon in a quarterfinal showdown this Friday with a start time of 3 p.m.
