Savard Wins Second Straight Singles Match as CSU Men’s Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision to Seattle

HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Junior Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) captured his second straight singles win this weekend for the Chicago State men's tennis team here today as it dropped a 6-1 decision to Western Athletic Conference foe Seattle at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club.
 
Savard posted a three-set victory in his No. 1 flight match against SU's Trenton Nield which evened his conference record to 2-2. He captured a 6-1 win in the first set then fell to Nield in the second set by a 6-3 margin before claiming the third and final set in a tiebreaker by a score of 7-6 (1).
 
The Redhawks captured the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles flights to record a 1-0 lead in the contest, but CSU's No. 2 tandem of senior Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) and freshman George Botha (Craddock, South Africa/Gray College Secondary School) recorded a close 6-4 victory over Nield and Adrian Sanabria.
 
SU had earned wins in five flights of singles play before Savard's victory with two of those matches going to three sets.
 
Wattley fell to Arshak Ghazaryan in the No. 2 flight by scores of 2-6, 6-2 and 10-7, while fellow senior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) dropped his No. 4 match via scores of 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Emilio Monroy.
 
Chicago State concludes the cluster tomorrow afternoon at H-F versus Grand Canyon in its home finale with a start time of 1 p.m. The Cougars will honor Gonzalez and Wattley in a senior day ceremony before the start of the match.
