Chicago State Men’s Tennis Hosts Second WAC Cluster This Weekend

CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's tennis team hosts the second Western Athletic Conference cluster this weekend at both the CSU Tennis Courts on its campus and the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club.
 
The Cougars open the six-match cluster tomorrow morning against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at 10 a.m. followed by a Saturday afternoon match at H-F against Seattle beginning at 2 p.m. CSU then closes its home slate on Sunday versus Grand Canyon for Senior Day starting at 1 p.m.
 
CSU kicked off a four-match slate this week yesterday as it dropped a 7-0 road decision at Illinois State. Senior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) has produced a 20-10 singles record while teaming with junior Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) to post a team-best 19-9 doubles ledger.
 
UTRGV heads into the weekend with a season record of 9-10 (0-2) after concluding its home schedule on April 3 with a 6-1 win over Laredo Community College. Senior Koby Jansen leads the Vaqueros in singles play with a 15-7 record followed by Elliot Johnstone and Yehonatan Kaufman recorded a doubles mark of 7-4.
 
Seattle has tallied an 8-12 (0-3) record and returns to the court following a week break after producing a 7-0 home victory over North Dakota on April 3. The Redhawks' top singles player is freshman Colton Weeldreyer as has recorded a 14-14 mark. Sophomore Arshak Ghazaryan and freshman Emilio Monroy currently hold a 7-8 record in doubles play.
 
Sporting a 14-5 record on the season, Grand Canyon comes to the Windy City on the heels of being idle for the past two weeks after falling at UMKC by a score of 6-1. Valentin Lang leads the Lopes with a singles record of 21-10, and the doubles team of Lorenzo Fucile and Mathieu Rajaonah hold a team-leading 13-11 record.
 
The Cougars close out their regular season schedule at Purdue on April 22 with a start time of 4 p.m.
