CHICAGO – Chicago State men's tennis takes on a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schools (MEAC) opponents this weekend in matches held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

The Cougars will battle North Carolina Central tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. then take on Howard on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

CSU heads into this week's slate holding a season record of 4-10 after concluding a four-match homestand last weekend with defeats to Wright State (2-5) and Lewis (3-4) at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Ill.

Senior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) leads the Green and White with a 16-8 singles record which includes a 9-4 ledger in dual matches. Gonzalez has won his last eight singles contests and holds a 5-2 mark at the No. 5 flight.

In doubles play, Gonzalez and junior Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) have produced a team-leading 15-7 doubles record with an 11-3 dual-match record at the No. 1 position. The duo has earned Western Athletic Conference Double Team of the Week accolades three times so far in 2018.

North Carolina Central heads into tomorrow's battle with CSU after gaining its first win of the dual-match season Tuesday thanks to a 6-1 victory over MEAC foe Howard to currently sit at 1-9. Sophomore Theofanis Kontopoulos leads NCCU with a 5-5 singles record while teaming with fellow sophomore Maksym Konovalov to post a 4-2 record in doubles play.

Howard now holds a 0-7 season record following Tuesday's defeat to N.C. Central and a 6-1 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday. Freshman Roger Lyn was named MEAC Rookie of the Week after earning his first collegiate win against FDU. The doubles tandem of sophomore Sagar Raju and junior Karim Shokeir have produced a 3-3 record at No. 1 to lead the Bison.

CSU returns to action in Kansas City for the first Western Athletic Conference cluster of the season on March 29 when it faces host UMKC beginning at 1:30 p.m.
