Chicago State Men’s Tennis Plays Three Matches This Week to Open March

Senior Christian Gonzalez and the Cougars head to Indianapolis tomorrow to battle host IUPUI to open a three-match weekend swing
CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's tennis team takes on three opponents this week to kick off the month of March.
 
CSU heads to Indianapolis tomorrow for a road match at IUPUI with a start time of 3 p.m., followed by a pair of home matches at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club on Saturday against local foes UIC (1 p.m.) and Roosevelt (6 p.m.) to begin a four-match homestand.
 
The Green and White head into this week's slate sporting a record of 3-6 on the season after earning a doubleheader split last Friday at home via a 6-1 defeat to Southern Utah and later posted a 5-0 win over Prairie State College. Seniors Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) have each posted 11 singles wins to lead the team with Gonzalez is now three wins away from capturing the school's D-I career record. In doubles, Gonzalez has posted a 12-5 record (8-1 in dual matches) with junior partner Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel).
 
Sitting at 4-7 on the year, IUPUI dropped its third straight match last Friday with a 4-0 loss at Saint Louis. The top singles player for the Jaguars is freshman Ethan Mardanus-Budio with a 7-7 record that includes a 3-0 mark in the No. 6 flight while teaming with senior Jac Newis to post a 3-4 record at No. 2 doubles.
 
UIC comes into this week's action with a season record of 0-5 after falling to Southern Utah, 5-1, at H-F and losing a 7-0 decision at Illinois State last weekend. Junior Johan Hedstrom and graduate student Marco Nanni have each posted two singles wins to tie for the team lead. Junior Marcelo Dib and sophomore Niko Wasilewicz lead the team with 7-3 record in doubles that includes a 3-2 mark at No. 1.
 
Roosevelt is returning to action after a two-week break following a 9-0 victory over Concordia University Ann Arbor in its season-opening match on Feb. 16.
 
The Cougars continue their homestand on March 9 against Wright State beginning at 1 p.m.
