Gonzalez and Savard Capture Doubles Win at Detroit Mercy for Fifth Straight

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.
– For the fifth straight dual match, the Chicago State men's tennis doubles team of senior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and junior Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) captured a win as the visiting Cougars fell to host Detroit Mercy, 6-1, here today at the Franklin Athletic Club.
 
The duo recorded a close 7-5 victory in the No. 1 flight over UDM's Luka Soskic and Gvidas Motuzas which gave the Green and White the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead.
 
After the Titans posted a default win at No. 3, freshman George Botha (Craddock, South Africa/Gray College Secondary School) and senior Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) teamed up to defeat Alvaro Alce and Ismail Kadyrov at No. 2 by a score of 6-2.
 
Detroit Mercy then won all six singles flights to take the match. Wattley fell to Nathan Ponton in a three-set battle at the No. 2 flight via scores of 3-6, 6-3 and 10-5
 
The Cougars will be back in action on Sunday with two matches that begins at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Center against Purdue Northwest beginning at 9 a.m.
