Simmons’ Career-High 25 Points Leads Chicago State against Seattle

CHICAGO – Senior Deionte Simmons (Detroit, Mich./Lewisville (Texas)) recorded a career-high 25 points to lead host Chicago State as it closed its short homestand with a 91-81 defeat to Seattle in a Western Athletic Conference men's basketball contest this afternoon at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.

Simmons shot 9-of-14 from the field and connected on seven of his eight free throw attempts in 26 minutes of action. He nearly tallied a double-double after grabbing a game-high nine rebounds which included six on the offensive end.

The visitors took an early 10-2 lead in the opening three minutes of the first half which led to a commanding 42-20 halftime advantage. Seattle then tallied 30 of the next 59 points scored over an 11-plus minute span to take its biggest advantage of the contest at 72-49 with 9:22 left in the second half.

CSU responded 32-16 scoring drive in a nine-minute stretch to close within 88-81 with 27 seconds left in regulation, but the Redhawks hit three of their final four free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Junior Rob Shaw (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) added a season-best 11 points and equaled a career high with four steals for the Green and White. Freshman Cameron Bowles (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and junior Anthony Harris (Gary, Ind./Griffith (Ind.)) also recorded 10 points.

Five players scored in double figures for Seattle with Morgan Means and Josh Hearilhy each recording 17 points.
