Bell Leads CSU with 13 Points and Three Steals at Western Illinois

MACOMB, Ill. – Sophomore Travon Bell (Chicago, Ill./Mather) paced the Chicago State men's basketball team with 13 points and three steals as it dropped an 81-52 decision to in-state rival Western Illinois this afternoon at Western Hall in the finale of the inaugural Summit League/WAC Challenge.
 
After WIU opened the contest with a 5-2 lead before Bell drained his first three-pointer of the game just four minutes into the game to even the score at 5-5. The Leathernecks would go on a 36-12 scoring run in a span of 15:52 to go into halftime with a 41-17 advantage en route to the victory.
 
The Green and White held a 7-0 advantage over the home team in fast break points for the contest.
 
Junior Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) posted eight rebounds and six points for the Cougars (3-11), while senior Rob Shaw (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) tied a career high with seven rebounds to go along with six points, three assists and three steals.
 
C.J. Duff tallied a game-high 17 points to lead four Leathernecks (5-8) that scored in double figures.
 
CSU heads to DeKalb, Ill., this Saturday afternoon for its final game of the calendar year 2018 when it takes on Northern Illinois live on ESPN+ with the opening tip set for 1 p.m.
