Men’s Basketball Finishes Non-Conference Slate at NIU

DEKALB, Ill. – The Chicago State men's basketball team concluded the non-conference part of its schedule here this afternoon after dropping a 100-59 decision to host Northern Illinois at the NIU Convocation Center.
 
The Huskies opened the game with a 9-2 advantage at the 18:18 mark of the first half on a three-pointer from Eugene German. CSU responded with a 10-4 scoring drive in a near six-minute span that sliced its deficit to a single point at 13-12 following a layup from senior Rob Shaw (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier).
 
A 28-12 run in the final 12 minutes increased the home team's leading margin to 41-24 going into halftime. NIU would later outscore the Green and White in the second half by a 59-35 score to gain the victory.
 
Senior Delshon Strickland (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnetonka ) led CSU with 17 points and dished out three assists followed by Shaw with 15 points and three assists while scoring his 500th career collegiate point on a layup at the 11:33 mark of the second half. Junior Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) was the final Cougar to score in double figures as he tallied 16 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
 
German scored a game-high 21 points for Northern Illinois as it had four players post double-digit scoring totals on the day.
 
After a near two-week break, Chicago State opens Western Athletic Conference play at Kansas City on Jan. 5 with the opening tip set for 2 p.m.
