Northwestern Game Notes

CHICAGO -

Opening Tip – The Chicago State women's basketball team continues its four-game road swing with a Monday morning inter-city battle versus host Northwestern at NU's Welsh-Ryan Arena with a start time of 11 a.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network Plus via the BTN2Go website.

Scouting CSU – Chicago State is looking to capture its first victory of the season after opening its road swing last Wednesday with an 85-38 defeat at Wisconsin. The Cougars are led this season by sophomore guard Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) and junior forward Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/). Bowers leads the team in scoring (16.1 ppg) and assists (3.0 apg), while Mata Boix leads the Western Athletic Conference with 11.8 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots per contest. Freshman guard Kourtney Crane (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) is averaging 9.9 points and 2.0 assists a game to rank second on the team in both categories while leading the team with an .851 free throw percentage.

Scouting NU – Northwestern, playing its first game in eight days, brings a 5-3 record into Monday's contest and looks to snap a three-game losing streak following a 76-67 loss at home to Marquette on Dec. 9. The Wildcats, however, do hold victories this season over fellow Power Five foes Duke and Florida. Sophomore guard Lindsey Pulliam leads four NU players in double figures with a scoring average of 15.5 points per game in addition to connecting on 82 percent of her attempts from the free throw line. Other top players for the Wildcats are sophomore guard Jordan Hamilton (12 ppg, 3.9 apg) and senior forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah (12 rpg, 11.8 ppg, 1.6 spg, 1.5 bpg).

Series History – The Cougars and Wildcats will meet for the 11th time on the hardwood with NU currently holding an 8-2 lifetime advantage. NU posted a 63-36 victory over CSU last season at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center on Nov. 11, 2017 with Mata Boix leading the Green and White with 14 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Mata Boix Makes CSU Top 5 in Career Blocks – Mata Boix now sits in fourth place on CSU's career blocked shots leaderboard with 86 blocks in over a year. She is now 43 blocks away from surpassing Wendi Walker's (2001-06) school record of 128.

Up Next – CSU continues its road swing on Friday, Dec. 21 with a trip up north to DeKalb, Ill., to battle Northern Illinois live on ESPN3 which begins at 6 p.m.
