The Green and White posted an early 2-0 lead just 31 seconds into the first half on a pair of free throws by senior Delshon Strickland (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnetonka ) before both teams would battle through four ties and three lead changes over a three-minute span that evened the game at 8-8.

DePaul then posted a quick 9-4 run to take a 17-12 lead with 12:29 remaining in the stanza, but CSU would score four unanswered points to slice its deficit to 17-16 at 11:46 thanks to Strickland and sophomore Travon Bell (Chicago, Ill./Mather). A 20-4 run in a six-minute stretch would give the home team a 37-20 lead at 4:53. The visitors cut its deficit to 42-30 after using a 10-7 drive over three minutes which ended on a layup from junior Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) at the 1:41 mark, but the Blue Demons scored seven points down the stretch to go into halftime with a 49-30 lead.
