Balanced Effort Helps CSU Volleyball to First Win Over Seattle U

CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball team received a balanced effort on the offensive and defensive ends tonight at the Jacoby Dickens Center as it posted a 3-0 victory over visiting Seattle U for its first win in the series.
 
CSU, who snapped a seven-match losing streak with the win, opened the match with a dominant 25-14 win in the first set then battled tough in the second set before going into intermission with a close 29-27 victory to go ahead by a 2-0 margin. The Green and White held on in the third set to take a 26-24 duke for the sweep.
 
The Cougars held match advantages over the Redhawks in assists (39-37), service aces (10-2), digs (57-55) and total blocks (11-6).
 
Junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) paced Chicago State (9-21, 3-10) in the contest as she recorded a match-high 16 digs, while senior Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) finished with a double-double of 15 digs and 12 kills in addition to tallying a career-high five service aces.
 
Senior Gabby Pearl (Farmer City, IL/Blue Ridge) contributed 10 kills and tied with junior Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) for match high honors in blocks with five, sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) dished out 23 assists, and junior Beatriz Palmieri (Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Professora Carlina Cacapava de Mello) added 12 digs.
 
Shae Harris recorded a double-double of a match-best 27 assists with 13 digs to lead Seattle (9-17, 2-11), while Rachel Stark posted a match-high 15 kills.
 
CSU closes its home schedule this Saturday morning when it hosts Utah Valley on homecoming and senior day with the first serve set for 11 a.m.
