Volleyball Honors Senior Class in Home Finale against Utah Valley

CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball closed out its home slate earlier this morning on Homecoming by taking on longtime rival Utah Valley in its home finale for senior day but dropped a 3-0 decision to the visiting Wolverines in a Western Athletic Conference rematch from mid-September.

Before the match, CSU honored its four seniors - Carmen Carvajal (Lugo, Spain/I.E.S Lucus Augusti), Gabby Pearl (Farmer City, IL/Blue Ridge), Ludmila Bomfim (Belo-Horizonte Minas Gerais, Brazil/Escola Estadual Pedro II) and Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) in a senior day ceremony.

UVU (15-12, 7-7) gained a 2-0 lead early in the match thanks to a 25-18 victory in the first set and later captured the second set by a 25-19 margin. CSU held a four-point advantage (17-13) midway through the third set before the Wolverines tallied 12 of the next 18 points to come back and end the contest.

In her final collegiate home match, Dela Cruz produced her team-leading 13th (and second straight) double-double with a match-best 16 kills and 11 digs.

Junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) recorded 20 digs for the Cougars (9-22, 3-11), while sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) added 16 assists and a match-high three service aces.

The Wolverines received a match-leading 25 digs from Seren Merrill followed by Madi Wardle's double-double of a match-high 19 assists and 12 digs.
