CSU Falls to Akron in Second Game of Grand Cayman Islands Classic

AKRON, Ohio – The Chicago State men's basketball team continued its trek through the Grand Cayman Islands Classic here tonight as it fell to host Akron at James A. Rhodes Arena by a score of 87-46 in its second campus game of the classic.
 
The Green and White held a slim 7-5 advantage in second chance points while both teams recorded 28 points in the paint for the contest.
 
Senior Rob Shaw (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) tallied a season-best 12 points to lead CSU, while junior Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) added 11 points and grabbed four offensive rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals.
 
Channel Banks tallied a game-high 17 points and shot 6-of-8 from the field to lead three players in double figures for the Zips (3-0).
 
The Cougars now travel to Johnson City, Tenn., for the GCI Mainland Tournament at Freedom Hall on the campus of East Tennessee State. CSU takes on the host Bucs in the second game of the tournament Monday night on ESPN+ starting at 7 p.m.
