CSU women's basketball releases its 2018-19 schedule today which includes 13 games at the Jones Convocation Center
2018-19 CSU Women's Basketball Schedule

CHICAGO –
Chicago State University first-year head women's basketball coach Misty Opat has announced the release of her team's 2018-19 schedule today on the eve of tomorrow's Western Athletic Conference Basketball Media Day in Denver.

The 29-game schedule includes a 16-game Western Athletic Conference slate with the addition of California Baptist, 13 home games at the friendly confines of the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center and contests against five teams that competed in the postseason last year.

"Our non-conference schedule is going to test us really well in the first two months of the season which will help prepare us for the rigors of WAC play coming in January," Opat said. "Taking on teams like Xavier, UAB and Northwestern will let my staff and I see where we are as a team as the season progresses."

CSU heads to Cincinnati for its season opener at Xavier on Nov. 6 followed by its Nov. 10 home opener versus Evansville at the JCC for Homecoming. The Green and White then hit the road to Morehead, Ky., on Nov. 16-17 for a couple of games in the Vineyard Farms Classic against Saint Francis (Brooklyn) and host Morehead State. Home games against UAB (Nov. 20) and Valparaiso (Nov. 29) along with an inter-city road battle at Loyola (Nov. 26) closes out November.

The Cougars hit the road for road games in December against Wisconsin (Dec. 12), Northwestern (Dec. 17), Northern Illinois (Dec. 21) and Bradley (Dec. 28) to go along with home contest versus SIU Edwardsville (Dec. 8) and Brown (Dec. 30) to conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule.

The year 2019 starts off WAC play in January for CSU as it welcomes Kansas City (Jan. 5), Grand Canyon (Jan. 17), CSU Bakersfield (Jan. 19) and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (Jan. 31) for home games while heading west to battle California Baptist (Jan. 12), Seattle U (Jan. 24) and Utah Valley (Jan. 26) on the road.

Four home games against defending WAC champion New Mexico State (Feb. 2), CBU (Feb. 7), UVU (Feb. 21) and SU (Feb. 23) highlight the month of February for the Green and White with road tilts at CSUB (Feb. 14), GCU (Feb. 16) and UTRGV (Feb. 28).

CSU finishes the season slate with two early March road games at NMSU (March 2) and UMKC (March 9).

The annual WAC Tournament will be held on March 13-16 from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas with eight of the nine schools participating. The tournament champion will earn the league's automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Opat returns six letterwinners from last season's team, including two starters in junior forward Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) and sophomore guard Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern).
