Volleyball Closes Weekend Home Slate with 3-0 Defeat to GCU

CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball closed out its weekend Western Athletic conference home slate on Saturday afternoon at the Jacoby Dickens Center with a 3-0 defeat to visiting Grand Canyon.
 
The 'Lopes kicked off the match with a 25-12 first-set win but had to come back from a seven-point deficit in the second set to eventually capture a close 30-28 victory before the intermission break. GCU also bounced back from a deficit in the third set before finishing with another close win this time by a 25-23 margin.
 
Sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) paced the Cougar offense when she dished out 21 assists while contributing eight digs and two service aces. CSU's defense was led by junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) with 13 digs and she also recorded a match-best three service aces.
 
Junior Kirah Williams-Shephard (Toronto, Canada/L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute) added nine kills and two block assists for the Green and White.
 
Grand Canyon (10-11, 3-6) was led by Kayla Matthews' match-leading 15 kills.
 
The Cougars (8-17, 2-7) hit the road next week for a three-match swing which begins on Thursday, Oct. 25 at California Baptist in Riverside, Calif. The match will be broadcast live online on the WAC Digital Network and is slated to begin at 9 p.m.
