Volleyball Opens Road Swing with 3-0 Defeat at WAC-Leading CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Chicago State volleyball team opened a three-match road swing here tonight with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Western Athletic Conference leader California Baptist in a conference battle at CBU's Van Dyne Gym.
 
The home team captured the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-20 heading into the intermission break before CSU fought valiantly in a close third-set battle before falling by a close 25-23 margin.
 
Sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) dished out 15 assists to lead the Cougars (8-18, 2-8) in the match followed by senior Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) posting 13 kills and junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) recording 13 digs.
 
Senior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) nearly tallied a double-double with 11 assists and nine digs, while junior Kirah Williams-Shephard (Toronto, Canada/L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute) and sophomore Summer Farris (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) each produced three block assists.
 
California Baptist (19-5, 9-2) were led by Megan Sester as she recorded a match-high 17 kills.
 
CSU continues its road swing in Bakersfield, Calif., this Saturday afternoon as it takes on CSU Bakersfield live on ESPN 3 with a start time of 3 p.m., central time.
