Dela Cruz, Adams Post Double-Doubles Versus WAC Leader CBU

CHICAGO – Senior Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) and sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) each posted double-doubles for host Chicago State as it dropped a 3-1 decision to Western Athletic Conference-leading California Baptist here Thursday night in the first-ever meeting between the two teams at the Jacoby Dickens Center.
 
The visiting Lancers (16-5, 7-2) opened the match with a 25-21 win in the first set before the Cougars took the second set by a score of 25-18 to go into intermission tied at 1-1. CBU regrouped to take the final two sets by margins of 25-20 in the third set and 25-14 in the fourth set.
 
Dela Cruz finished with 16 kills and 13 digs for her team-leading 10th double-double of the year, while Adams produced her ninth double-double this season thanks to 23 assists and 13 digs.
 
Junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) notched a match-high 22 digs to go along with a season-best eight assists for CSU (8-16, 2-6) followed by senior Gabby Pearl (Farmer City, IL/Blue Ridge) and junior Kirah Williams-Shephard (Toronto, Canada/L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute) each posting eight kills.
 
Tesa Oaks recorded a match-high 19 kills and Natalie Zimmerer produced a match-best 40 assists to lead California Baptist.
 
Chicago State is back in action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Grand Canyon in its annual Dig Pink match starting at 1 p.m.
