Cougars Drop Close 2-1 Decision at New Mexico State in WAC Road Battle

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – It was a close Western Athletic Conference women's soccer battle here at the New Mexico State Soccer Athletic Complex between visiting Chicago State and the host Aggies before NM State captured a 2-1 victory.

The home team broke a scoreless tie at the 27th minute on an unassisted goal from Audriana Chavez for a 1-0 lead. Chavez struck again three minutes later with another goal in the 30th minute off an assist from Emma Smith to hike NM State's lead to 2-0 which it held until intermission.

The score would stay the same until the 74th minute after junior Sara Quevedo (Lomo Blanco, Spain) tallied her fourth goal of the season to slice CSU's deficit to 2-1, but the Aggies would hold on defensively for the win. The goal also helped Quevedo score move to second on the school's career and single-season records for total points.

Freshman goalkeeper Judith Sorribes (Barcelona, Spain/Bisbe Berenguer) kept the Cougars in the game as she produced a game-high 14 saves.

CSU returns to Gwendolyn Brooks High School Field on Friday, Oct. 19 to take on the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a start time of 1 p.m. The game also marks as Senior Day with seniors Sierra Nixon (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) and Audra Wisehart (Sandusky, Ohio/Huron) being honored in a pre-game ceremony.
