Women’s Soccer Falls to UT Rio Grande Valley, 2-0, in Home Finale

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's soccer team finished off the home portion of its schedule today at Gwendolyn Brooks High School Field with a 2-0 defeat to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in a Western Athletic Conference contest on Senior Day.

Prior to the game, the Green and White honored seniors Sierra Nixon (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) and Audra Wisehart (Sandusky, Ohio/Huron) for the contributions to the program over the last four years in a senior day ceremony.

The first half was a tightly-contested defensive affair between the two teams that went into halftime scoreless with the Vaqueros holding a slim 7-6 advantage in shots.

UTRGV got on the board in the second half when Sarah Bonney converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute for a 1-0 advantage. The visitors added another score in the 74th minute on a goal from Jada MacLean off a pass from Bonney for the final margin.

CSU received three shot attempts from freshman Marissa Beale (Frazier Park, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) on the day. Wisehart performed well in her final collegiate home game as she tallied a game-high 12 saves which moved her into third place among the WAC's all-time saves leaders passing former Nevada netminder Megan Tarpenning.

The Cougars head to Missouri on Oct. 20 for their regular season finale against WAC-leading Kansas City at Durwood Soccer Stadium with the opening kickoff set for 1 p.m.
