Gonzalez and Savard Win Fourth Straight in Doubles as CSU Falls to EIU at Home

HOMEWOOD, Ill.
– Senior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and junior Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) earned their fourth straight doubles victory as host Chicago State fell to Eastern Illinois today at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Center.
 
Gonzalez and Savard recorded a 6-4 victory in the No. 1 flight over Freddie O'Brien and Trent Reiman just hours after being named the Western Athletic Conference Doubles Team of the Week and improved their record to 8-4 that includes a perfect 4-0 mark in dual matches.
 
EIU responded by earning the doubles point thanks a default win at No. 3 and a 6-3 win at No. 2 to gain a 1-0 lead.
 
The Green and White produced a pair of wins in singles play, but the Panthers captured the remaining four flights for the match.
 
Senior Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) took a 6-2 win in the first set of his No. 2 flight contest against Kaisei Kuroki and was ahead 3-0 in the second set before Kuroki retired. The win improved Wattley's singles record to 9-4.
 
In the No. 3 match, freshman George Botha (Craddock, South Africa/Gray College Secondary School) recorded a three-set victory at No. 3 over Logan Charbonneau by scores of 6-4, 3-6 and 1-0 (10-5) to improve his season record to 3-0.
 
Chicago State is back in action on Feb. 9 as it travels to Detroit to take on host Detroit Mercy with a start time of 8 a.m.
