CSU Men’s Tennis Hosts Eastern Illinois in In-State Showdown on Tuesday

CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's tennis team heads back to the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club on Tuesday afternoon as it welcomes Eastern Illinois for an in-state showdown that begins at 1 p.m.

The Green and White come into Tuesday's match sporting a 1-2 season record after they dropped a pair of matches last week to Green Bay (4-3) at home and on the road at Cardinal Stritch (8-1). Seniors Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) are tied for the team lead with eight singles wins, while Gonzalez has teamed with junior Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) to record a 7-4 mark in doubles which includes a three-match winning streak.

Eastern Illinois has recorded a 0-3 record and is in the middle of a season-opening eight-match road swing while falling at Indiana last Friday by a 5-2 margin. The Panthers are led in singles play by sophomore Freddie O'Brien as he has tallied a 4-7 record. O'Brien and senior partner Trent Reiman lead the team in doubles wins with a 5-6 mark.

Following the EIU match, the Cougars will travel to Michigan on Feb. 9 to battle host Detroit Mercy with a start time of 8 a.m.
