Men’s Tennis Falls to Green Bay in Tight Battle, 4-3

HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Chicago State men's tennis fought a tightly contested match here at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club today against Green Bay before falling by a 4-3 margin.

The Cougars took two out of the three doubles matches to open with a 1-0 advantage.

Senior Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) and sophomore Cody Wurzelbacher (Toledo, Ohio/Springfield) earned their first win of the season following a 6-4 win at No. 3 over Felix Triebe and Tony Leto. Senior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and junior Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) later edged out Florian Kraenzler and James Ling via a close 7-6 victory in the No. 1 flight,

UWGB rebounded by winning four of the six singles matches to clinch the match, but CSU gained wins from Martinez and freshman George Botha (Craddock, South Africa/Gray College Secondary School).

Martinez knocked off Triebe in the No. 5 flight by scores of 7-5 and 7-6, while Botha bounced back from a 6-2 defeat in the first set of his No. 4 match against before taking the second set by a 6-2 score and won the final set by a 6-4 margin.

The Green and White close out their weekend slate tomorrow afternoon against host Cardinal Stritch at the North Shore Elite Tennis Club in Glendale, Wis., with the match set to start at 4 p.m.
