Men’s Basketball Falls at Utah Valley to Close WAC Weekend Road Swing

OREM, Utah – Chicago State men's basketball closed out its first Western Athletic Conference weekend road trip of the season tonight here at the UCCU Center as it fell to host Utah Valley by a score of 83-58.
 
UVU broke an early 4-4 tie with an 11-0 run in a span of two and a half minutes to post a 15-4 lead with 14:37 in the first half. The Green and White rebounded with a 16-4 scoring drive that lasted six minutes to post a 20-19 advantage that ended with a layup from freshman Cameron Bowles (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) at the 8:37 mark.
 
An 18-8 run in the final eight minutes gave the home team a 37-28 lead going into intermission before outscoring the visitors in the second half with a 46-30 margin to gain the win.
 
Junior Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) recorded 15 points and went 3-of-6 from three-point range to lead CSU in the game. Senior Glen Burns (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian) finished with 12 points, a career-best six steals, five rebounds and three assists, while sophomore Patrick Szpir (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) grabbed six rebounds.
 
The Wolverines had three players score in double figures with Akolda Manyang scoring game high totals of 22 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
 
CSU opens a three-game homestand at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center which begins next week on Thursday, Jan. 18 against Grand Canyon live on the WAC Digital Network with a time of 7:05 p.m.
