Men’s Tennis Edges Seattle, 4-3, for First WAC Victory of the Season

Junior Christian Gonzalez posted a three-set win at No. 5 singles to help CSU defeat Seattle, 4-3
SEATTLE – The Chicago State men's tennis team edged host Seattle U, 4-3, here today in a tightly-contested match at the Amy Yee Tennis Center to earn its first Western Athletic Conference win of the season.
 
CSU took two out of three in doubles play to post a 1-0 advantage early in the contest.
 
In the No. 2 flight, juniors Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) captured a 6-3 victory over Michael Schoettler and John Stormans.
 
The No. 1 doubles tandem of  sophomore Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) and freshman Jiri Nouza (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Budejouicka 680) knocked off the SU duo of Arshak Ghazaryan and Adrian Sanabria by a score of 7-6 (8).
 
Martinez recorded a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Stromans at No. 3 singles, while Savard defeated Schoettler in the No. 2 flight via scores 7-6 (5) and 6-3 for his second straight win.
 
Gonzalez clinched the match for the Cougars (7-12, 1-3) with his 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 victory in the No. 5 flight over Alex Chen.
 
CSU concludes its WAC schedule tomorrow morning against UMKC beginning at 10 a.m.
