Savard Claims Fourth Consecutive Singles Win for Cougars at UIC

Sophomore Felix Savard earned a straight-set win today at UIC for his fourth consecutive singles win
CHICAGO – Sophomore Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) claimed his fourth consecutive singles victory here this afternoon as the Chicago State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to host UIC at the UIC Tennis Courts.
 
Savard recorded a straight-set win in his No. 2 flight match versus Niko Wasilewicz, winning by scores of 6-3 and 6-0 to improve his dual match singles record to 10-10 that includes an 8-3 mark at No. 2.
 
Freshman Jiri Nouza (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Budejouicka 680) knocked off Carl Hedstrom in the No. 1 contest in a three-set battle after coming back from a 6-4 defeat in the first set to win the final two by identical 6-3 scores.
 
In the No. 3 matchup, junior Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) claimed a 6-4 victory in the first set of his contest against Christian San Andres before falling in the second and third sets by the same 6-4 margins.
 
The Flames won all three doubles matches to post an early 1-0 lead.
 
CSU concludes the regular season on Sunday, April 23 at Northwestern beginning at 6 p.m.
