Women’s Tennis Defeats Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) for Second Straight Win

RENESSLAER, Ind. – The Chicago State women's tennis team posted its second straight win after capturing an 8-1 victory over host Saint Joseph's (Ind.) College at the SJC Tennis Courts in a match played under NCAA Division II rules.

CSU began the match by claiming wins in all three doubles matches and later won five out of the six singles flights.

Redshirt senior Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and junior Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) recorded an 8-0 victory at No. 3 over Lauren Jukutcyk and Matalene Gearheart followed by junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) and freshman Judit Aubets (Major, Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera) defeating Clare Kost and Vanessa Olson by an 8-1 decision. Junior Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) and senior Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia) tallied an 8-3 win in the No. 1 flight over the duo of Assya Trimari and Mary Huffine

Kostyuk defeated Olson at No. 2 singles and Gamboa knocked off Huffine at the No. 3 flight in straight sets by 6-0 scores.

Lloyd earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 over Kost, Pangestu won her No. 5 contest by matching 6-0 scores over Jakutcyk, and Aubets gained a 6-0, 6-0 win over Gearheart at No. 6.

The Cougars (6-15) conclude the regular season on April 18 at Valparaiso with a start time of 1 p.m.
