PHOENIX - The Chicago State men's tennis team kicked off it Western Athletic Conference slate here with the first WAC cluster as it fell to defending conference champion New Mexico State, 7-0, at the Grand Canyon Tennis Courts.

NM State opened the match by winning two of the three doubles flights to post a 1-0 lead before sweeping all six singles contests.

The Green and White's No. 2 duo of juniors Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) extended their winning streak to six in a row after capturing a close 7-6 victory over Stijn de Haan and Mauri Benitez.

Martinez was later in a thrilling singles battle with de Haan in the No. 3 singles flight before falling by scores of 7-5 and 7-6.

CSU looks to close out the weekend on a good note tomorrow morning as it will take on host Grand Canyon beginning at 11 a.m.
