Men’s Tennis Hosts Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) and Michigan State in Homewood on Saturday

CHICAGO – Chicago State men's tennis continues its current seven-match homestand this Saturday as it plays two matches at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club.
 
The Green and White open the day with a match against NCAA Division II Saint Joseph's (Ind.) at 2:30 p.m. then return later that evening versus Big Ten Conference member Michigan State at 7 p.m.
 
CSU is led by junior Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo), who has amassed a 10-10 singles record and has teamed with fellow classmate Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) to post seven doubles wins.
 
Saint Joseph's kicks off its 2017 dual match slate on Saturday after finishing the 2016 season with a 6-12 record which included a 2-4 record against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents. The top returners for the Pumas are senior Joseph Comerford and Lucas Jessen, who produced a 4-3 doubles record a year ago.
 
Michigan State heads into the week with a season record of 4-3 as it continues a seven-match road swing this Friday at Western Michigan. MSU captured a pair of road wins in Indiana last weekend at Ball State (5-2) and IUPUI (4-3). Junior Jasper Koenen leads the Spartans with a 6-7 singles record and holds a 4-4 record with fellow junior Michael Dube.
 
The Cougars are idle for a week before closing out their homestand on Feb. 23 against Moraine Valley Community College and Prairie State College in Homewood. The MVCC match begins at 11 a.m. and the Prairie State contest starts at 3 p.m.
