New Mexico State Game Notes

CHICAGO - Chicago State women's basketball kicks off the month of February in the friendly confines of the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center this Saturday afternoon as it welcomes defending Western Athletic Conference champion New Mexico State in its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game. The opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – CSU returns to the JCC this week after dropping a pair of conference road game out west last week to CSU Bakersfield (48-83) and Grand Canyon (39-57). The Cougars are led by sophomore guard/forward Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods), who is producing averages of 14.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game to go along with recording a team-leading 16 blocked shots. Redshirt junior guard Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) is second on the team in scoring at 10 points a game, and senior guard Cailin Nix (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) has produced a team-best 1.9 steals per game to go along with her scoring average of 8.8 points a game.

SCOUTING NMSU – Winners of their last eight consecutive games since the end of December, New Mexico State brings a season record of 15-6 into Saturday's contest while leading the WAC with a perfect 7-0 mark. The Aggies earned a pair of wins at home last weekend over conference foes Seattle U (73-69 in overtime) and Utah Valley (63-46). Sophomore guard Brooke Salas, who earned WAC Player of the Week honors on Monday for her play last week, leads three NMSU players in double figure scoring with 14 points per game in addition to shooting a team-high .833 free throw percentage. Senior guard Tamera William has produced team-leading averages of 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals per contest in addition to scoring 11.1 points a game.

SERIES HISTORY – New Mexico State has produced a 7-0 lead all-time against CSU in the series that dates back to the 2013-14 season. The Aggies captured the first meeting of this season's series in Las Cruces, N.M., on Jan. 7 with a 100-63 win at the Pan American Center.

WAC SCORING BATTLE – Saturday's game will see three of the WAC's top 10 scorers play in Allen (fifth), Salas (T-sixth) and NM State senior guard Moriah Mack (10th – 12.6 ppg).

KA'S DOUBLE STACK – Allen currently leads the WAC in double-doubles with five on the season.

WAC LEADER – Nix has been playing like an ironwoman for the Cougars in WAC games as she leads the league in minutes played with an average of 40.1 a game.

UP NEXT – CSU kicks off its final road swing of the season on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Seattle with a start time of 9 p.m.
