CSU Men’s Tennis Post Second Straight Win after Defeating William Jewell, 8-1

O'FALLON, Ill. – The Chicago State men's tennis team posted its second straight victory today after defeating William Jewell, 8-1, here at the St. Clair Tennis Club.

The Green and White recorded wins in all three doubles contests to start the match which opened with juniors Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) gaining an 8-1 victory in the No. 2 flight over Tim Kiesslich and Bjorn Myers.

Freshman Jiri Nouza (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Budejouicka 680) and sophomore Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) then produced an 8-3 win over Amery Clews and Marc Gärtner in the No. 1 flight, and junior Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) and freshman Cody Wurzelbacher (Toledo, Ohio/Springfield) won the No. 3 flight by posting an 8-4 win over Caul Pearson and Hayden Fulk.

Gonzalez defeated Pearson in the No. 5 flight by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 to start singles play on a good note for CSU. Wurzelbacher then captured an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Fulk at No. 6 before Nouza posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 flight over Clews.

Savard claimed the No. 2 flight by defeating Gärtner by scores of 6-3 and 7-5 before Martinez closed the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Kiesslich in the No. 3 contest.

CSU opens a three-match homestand next week at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Center in Homewood, Ill. that begins on Friday, March 3 against Detroit Mercy at 9 a.m.
