Four Cougars Tally Double Figures in WAC Battle with CSU Bakersfield

CHICAGO – Four players scored in double figures for the Chicago State women's basketball team during today's Western Athletic Conference battle against CSU Bakersfield at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
 
The visiting Roadrunners held off a late fourth quarter rally by the Green and White to win by a close score of 71-67.
 
CSUB used a 13-5 scoring run in a six-minute span that broke an early 2-2 tie in the opening quarter to gain a 15-7 advantage with 2:30 remaining in the quarter following a layup from Kate Tokuhara before finishing the stanza with a 19-12 lead.
 
The visitors scored 14 of the next 21 points over six and a half minutes in the second quarter to increase its leading margin to 33-19 with 3:25 left that ended with a Addi Walters three-pointer. A conventional three-point play from sophomore Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) began a stretch for CSU where it tallied seven unanswered points in over two minutes to slice its deficit to 33-26 with 56 seconds remaining before Jazmyne Bartee scored a layup 20 seconds later to bring CSUB's advantage to 35-26 heading into intermission.
 
The third quarter saw the Roadrunners outscore CSU by a slim 21-17 margin and took their biggest lead of the game at 56-41 following a three-pointer from Erika Williams at the 56-second mark.
 
The Green and White then began the fourth quarter with a 22-9 scoring run in a seven-minute span, which included junior Destiny Harris (Crete, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) draining four three-pointers for 12 points during the run, to close within two points at 65-63 with 2:36 left. CSUB closed out the win by tallying six of the final 10 points played down the stretch.
 
Allen recorded game highs of 20 points and three assists to lead CSU while connecting on 14-of-15 from the free throw line. Harris shot 5-of-9 from the field and hit all four of her three-point attempts to record a season-high scoring total with 17 points and also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
 
Senior Cailin Nix (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) finished with 12 points and tied for game-high honors with three steals, and redshirt junior Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) contributed 11 points. Sophomore Nadia Miller (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) dished out a career-high four assists and freshman Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) also recorded a season-best three steals.
 
Williams also scored 20 points to tie for game-high scoring honors to pace CSU Bakersfield, while Bartee posted 15 points with a game-high nine rebounds.
 
The Cougars conclude the regular season on March 4 at the Jones Convocation Center for Senior Day with a WAC contest against UMKC that begins at 2 p.m. on the WAC Digital Network.
