OPENING TIP: After completing final exams last week, the Chicago State women's basketball team continues its five-game road swing in Indiana tomorrow afternoon with a non-conference battle versus host Valparaiso at the Athletics-Recreation Center live on ESPN 3 beginning at 3 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU: The Cougars bring a season record of 0-9 into the Valpo contest following last Sunday's 84-39 loss to Wright State which opened their road swing. Three players are currently averaging double figures for CSU with freshman guard Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) leading the way with 11.3 points per game in addition to dishing out a team-best 2.8 assists a game. Redshirt sophomore Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain) leads the Green and White in rebounds (8.4 rpg), blocked shots (2.6 bpg), steals (2.4 spg) and field-goal percentage (.524) while ranking second in scoring at 11.2 points per contest. Redshirt senior guard Phylicia Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington Central) is averaging 10 points and 3.4 assists a game.

SCOUTING VU: Valparaiso returns to the ARC with a 3-4 record on the season after completing a four-game road swing Friday night with a 95-49 defeat at Purdue. Senior forward Dani Franklin leads the Crusaders in scoring with an average of 15 points a game while connecting on 82 percent of her chances at the free throw line. Junior guard Meredith Hamlet is second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game in addition to shooting 52 percent from three-point range. Sophomore forward Caitlin Morrison has produced team highs of 5.7 rebounds a game and 10 blocked shots for VU this season.

SERIES HISTORY: CSU and Valpo will meet on the hardwood for the 43rd time as the Crusaders lead the series by a 36-6 margin. VU edged out the Green and White in the teams' last meeting in Chicago on Nov. 16, 2016 by a score of 58-56 on a last-second layup with Sh'Toya Sanders scoring 14 points to lead the Cougars.

WAC LEADERS: Mata Boix currently leads the Western Athletic Conference in blocked shots and field goal percentage, while the Cougars are tied with Utah Valley for first in steals with an average of nine per contest.

UP NEXT: CSU travels to Kansas to compete in the Shocker Winter Classic at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita on Friday and Saturday. The classic features host Wichita State, Alcorn State and Oral Roberts along with the Cougars.
