Cougars Close Non-Conference Schedule Today at Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Chicago State men's basketball closed out its non-conference slate here today at Western Michigan's University Arena after falling to the host Broncos by a score of 92-71.
 
WMU started the game with an early 5-0 lead in the opening three minutes before CSU tallied five unanswered points in a minute to even the score at 5-5 after junior Anthony Harris (Gary, Ind./Griffith (Ind.)) converted a layup at the 16:08 mark. The Broncos then went on a 38-13 run in a 13-minute span to regain a 43-18 with 4:14 remaining in the half before taking a 49-28 advantage at the half and Chicago State would get no closer than 19 points during the second half.
 
The Cougars would hold leading margins over the home team in points in the paint (30-28), points off turnovers (11-9) and fast break points (6-2).
 
Three players scored in double figures for the Green and White with junior Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) leading the way with 15 points. Senior Glen Burns (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian) recorded 14 points and tied for game-high honors by dishing out five assists to go along with hitting 10 of his 11 free throw attempts.
 
Junior Rob Shaw (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) shot 4-of-7 from the field and hit both of his free throw attempts to add 10 points which ties his season high for scoring.
 
WMU was paced by Josh Davis' 27 points and 10 rebounds from Drake Lamont.
 
CSU now returns to the friendly confines of the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center on Jan. 6 when it hosts New Mexico State in its Western Athletic Conference opener with the opening tip set for 2:05 p.m.
