OPENING TIP: Chicago State women's basketball team close out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon with a New Year's Eve battle at Pittsburgh on ACC Network Extra with a start time of 12 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU: CSU heads out east for its 2017 finale looking to break into the win column after a nine-day break when it dropped an 84-59 home decision to Milwaukee at the Jacoby Dickens Center on Dec. 21 with freshman guard Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) [21 points] and redshirt senior guard Phylicia Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington Central) [20 points] each producing 20-point scoring efforts. Bowers currently leads the Green and White with averages of 13.3 points and 2.5 assists per game, while Johnson ranks second on the team at 12.1 points and 2.4 assists per contest. Redshirt sophomore forward Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain) paces the Cougars in rebounds (7.9 rpg), blocked shots (1.9 bpg) and steals (1.8 spg) in addition to scoring 8.9 points per game.

SCOUTING UP: Pittsburgh comes into Sunday afternoon's showdown with a 7-6 season record following Thursday night's 62-50 defeat at Virginia in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. The Panthers have two players averaging double figure scoring in redshirt junior forward Yacine Diop (14.8 ppg) and junior center Kalista Walters (10.5 ppg). Both players are tied for the team lead in steals with an average of 1.7 per game, while Walters leads UP with 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocked shots per contest. Sophomore guard Jasmine Whitney is dishing out a team-leading 4.2 assists a game.

SERIES HISTORY: Sunday's contest serves as the first-ever meeting between Chicago State and Pittsburgh on the basketball court. The Panthers are the fourth ACC team that the Cougars have faced in their Division I era joining Florida State, Georgia Tech and Syracuse.

JOHNSON NETS NEW CAREER HIGH: Johnson posted a new career high for scoring on Dec. 21 against Milwaukee as she tallied 20 points while equaling two more career highs with three steals and a blocked shot in 40 minutes played.

UP NEXT: The Cougars conclude their road swing in Las Cruces, N.M. on Jan. 6 when they take on defending Western Athletic Conference champion New Mexico State at the Pan American Center in the league opener for both teams with the opening tip set for 3 p.m.
